The Experience
The tour starts in Cathays Park, where City Hall, the Temple of Peace, the Glamorgan Building, Cardiff University and the National Museum have all featured in Doctor Who. The guide walks you through which episodes used these buildings and why they mattered to the show's development. From there, Cardiff Castle comes into focus—the historical centre of the city and a location that appeared in Rebel Flesh (Series 6) and Heaven Sent (Series 10). The castle anchors the first half of the walk before you move into the shopping streets of the city centre, where the side roads and everyday corners have been vital to modern Doctor Who's look.
After roughly 90 minutes in the central areas, the tour crosses into Butetown, the suburban link between the city and the waterfront. This neighbourhood played a major role in Series 1 and 2—the guide shows you where the Tyler family hung out, where ghosts once appeared on screen and where Sally Sparrow met DI Billy Shipton. The Principality Stadium also features in this section as the Stormcage Facility and played a prominent role in the first series story, Dalek.
