The experience
The class runs three hours in a wood carving garden about 15 kilometers from Hoi An, in the small village of Go Noi. A local craftsman walks you through the basics of using chisels to carve an art frame, helping you find the shape (flowers, animals, anime characters like Naruto or Dragon Ball, or comic book figures) that is already suggested in the wood. The carver you work with is part of Woodart Vietnam, a team with over a million social media followers known for intricate wooden pieces. You'll see examples of their work throughout the garden, ranging from traditional Buddhist and animal sculptures to their signature anime and Marvel character collection.
You bring home the frame you carve, along with all the tools and materials used during the class. A welcome drink of coffee, tea or water is included. You also receive a class certificate at the end.
