The Experience
The tour picks you up at your hotel at 6 PM and heads straight into the evening traffic—millions of motorbikes moving through the city. Your first stop is a local restaurant known for bun thit nuong, rice noodles with grilled pork, one of southern Vietnam's most popular dishes. From there you move to banh xeo and banh khot, thin crispy pancakes served with fresh vegetables, and watch a local chef make one from scratch. The guide takes you to the city's 24-hour wholesale flower market, then deeper into the alleyways to the Cambodian market, where you see how locals actually live and eat.
In District 10, you stop at a coconut ice cream shop that's been open since 1975 and watch the owner prepare it right in front of you. The route crosses Nguyen Van Cu Bridge for a view of the Saigon River and the stilt houses built on it. The final stretch takes you to District 7, where you try two mountainous dishes—banh cuon trung and pho chua dac biet—and get a chance to make steamed rice rolls with a local chef as a mini cooking challenge. Then it's a motorbike ride back to your hotel.
The tour is private, so it's just you and the guide. Everything is included: the motorbike ride with fuel, a high-quality open-face helmet, all seven dishes, and hotel pickup and drop-off. If a restaurant is closed on the day you go, the guide swaps in a different local spot. Tell the guide about any food allergies beforehand, and they'll adjust the itinerary. The operator recommends not eating before the tour—you'll be tasting a lot.
