The experience

The day starts with pickup at your hotel in Duong Dong or elsewhere on the island, then heads to a cultured pearl farm where you watch artisans carve intricate statues from giant shells and see how real pearls are produced. From there, the route moves to Phu Quoc prison, a preserved compound that documents the island's wartime past and the conditions prisoners endured: a sobering counterpoint to the beaches that follow.

Sao Beach is the swimming stop: powdery white sand and water clear enough that you can see the bottom. After time there, you visit Ho Quoc Pagoda, the island's most prominent temple, set on a hillside with views across the water and grounds quiet enough to feel the shift from the morning's activity. Lunch happens at a local restaurant (included for groups of seven or more), then the afternoon takes in a fish sauce factory and a bee farm with an organic garden where you can taste honey drinks. The driver speaks English and the vehicle is air-conditioned. You'll get bottled water and a cold towel throughout the day.

The itinerary is not fixed. If a stop doesn't appeal or you want more time at one beach, the driver can adjust the route to fit what you actually want to see. The whole day runs roughly eight hours from pickup to return.
