A whale skeleton sits inside the museum you'll walk through in the opening hour.

A half-day guided tour of Nha Trang covers four major sites: the National Oceanographic Museum with over 20,000 marine specimens, Hon Chong Promontory's distinctive rock clusters, the 38-meter Stone Church, and the ancient Ponagar Towers. The tour includes hotel or port pickup, entrance fees to all sites, lunch and a bottle of water. An English-speaking guide leads the group through each stop.

The experience

The Museum of Oceanography opens the tour and holds the bulk of the morning. You'll walk through galleries of preserved marine life (thousands of specimens representing 4,000 species), and stand in front of the centerpiece: a whale skeleton nearly 18 meters long and 3 meters high. The museum is a working research institute, not just a display space, so the collection reflects actual Southeast Asian marine science. From there the group moves to Hon Chong Promontory, a natural rock formation on the shore where two clusters of boulders rise from the water. One formation, called Hon Chong (meaning "Husband"), features a giant five-fingered hand carved into a boulder. The other, Hon Vo ("Wife"), sits across the bay. The rocks frame a small beach with clear water and natural shade.

The Stone Church comes next. Built in gothic style with reinforced concrete and split rock, it covers 720 square meters and rises 38 meters at the bell tower. The curved arch-shaped ceiling is the most distinctive feature: wide and pointed, built in ascending cubes from ground to sky. After the church, the tour reaches Ponagar Towers, a temple complex built around 781 A.D. that shaped religious architecture across Vietnam. The towers show the craftsmanship of the ancient Cham Kingdom through their stairs, wall steps and sculptures. Lunch is served during the tour, and you'll have a bottle of drinking water for the morning.

Hotel pickup happens within a 3-kilometer radius of central Nha Trang, or the guide will meet you at the cruise port if you're arriving by ship. The tour runs four hours total and suits any fitness level. Small children can travel in a stroller, and infants can sit on an adult's lap or use a specialized infant seat if needed.
