A 90-minute surf lesson at Little Buddha beach in Mui Ne, Vietnam, where you learn take-offs and paddling from Tuan, a local surfer with 15 years of experience. The experience

You'll meet Tuan at the surf office in Mui Ne to talk through your level and decide how to reach Little Buddha beach. He can drive you or you can follow on a motorbike if you have one. Once you arrive, he'll check the wave conditions and walk you through the basics on land: how to stand on the board, how to paddle, and what to watch for in the water. The beach is a left-hand point break, which means it's forgiving for people picking up a board for the first time but interesting enough for anyone with a bit of experience already.

After the land drills, you'll paddle out together and start catching waves. Tuan stays in the water with you the whole time, so you're not figuring it out alone. The lesson runs 90 minutes, which is long enough to get the motion into your body without wearing you out completely. You'll use soft-top boards (they're more forgiving when you're learning), and he provides the long-sleeve lycra and zinc so you don't burn while you're focused on staying upright.
