By 9:30 AM you're paddling into Bright Cave, a limestone cavern opening onto hidden lagoons where the water sits still and the cliffs rise sheer on both sides. The kayak is stable and the guide paddles alongside, pointing out the rare Cat Ba Langur monkeys if they're visible in the canopy. After an hour on the water you return to the boat for a freshly prepared Vietnamese lunch (seafood and vegetarian options both available), eaten while the boat drifts through the bay's most dramatic islets: Pen, Turtle, and Tay Keo.
The afternoon splits between two things. At Ba Trai Dao Beach (Three Peaches Beach) you swim in emerald water and can use the boat's water slide and jacuzzi if you want them. Most people just float and let the limestone walls frame the sky. Then comes a second kayaking run to the calmer, more secluded waters around Tay Keo or Van Boi, where the crowds thin out and the paddling is gentler.
