Bamboo Workshop Hoi An: Make Your Own Souvenir
Carve and shape bamboo into something you designed
A bamboo souvenir-making workshop in Hoi An where you learn traditional crafting techniques from a local artisan, choose your own project (pen holder, vase, bird cage, speaker or toy), and make it by hand to take home. The workshop runs 2 hours or 3–4 hours; pickup from Hoi An is included, and groups stay under 10 people. English instruction and all materials are provided.
The Experience
You start in the artisan's home workshop, surrounded by finished bamboo pieces—vases, speakers, toys, cages—and the raw material itself. The craftsman walks you through how bamboo has shaped Vietnamese life for generations, from traditional houses in Cam Thanh village to modern household items, and explains the sustainable techniques his family has used across two generations. This context matters: you're not just making an object, you're learning why bamboo matters here.
Then you pick what to make. The range is real—pen holder, flower vase, bird cage, iPhone speaker, children's toy, animal figurine—and the choice is yours. The artisan gives you the general instruction you need, then steps back while you work. You shape, carve and assemble your piece with tools and materials provided, with help available when you need it. There's time built in to draw or personalize your work before wrapping it up, so what you take home is actually yours, not a template everyone made the same way.
The whole thing takes either 2 hours or 3–4 hours depending on which option you book; both include pickup from your Hoi An accommodation, so you don't arrange transport yourself. Water is provided. By the end you have a souvenir that came from your hands and your choices, not from a shelf.
What’s included
- All tools and materials for your chosen bamboo project.
- water during the session.
- English instruction from the local artisan.
- pickup and transfer from your Hoi An accommodation.
- your finished bamboo souvenir to take home.
