The experience
The day starts at Ha Long International Cruise Port (the same terminal where all cruise ships dock) with a morning departure at 8:30am, 10:30am or 11:30am depending on your ship's arrival time. You board the boat and head into the bay, where around 1,600 limestone islands and islets rise from the water. The first stop is Sung Sot Cave, one of the largest in Ha Long Bay at over 10,000 square meters, where you walk through chambers carved by water over millennia. Most of the islands around you are uninhabited, which means the landscape stays largely unchanged.
After the cave, the boat heads to Luon Lagoon, where you choose between kayaking or taking a bamboo boat through the narrow waterway: a chance to move through the seascape at your own pace. Lunch is served on board with a set menu. The afternoon brings a stop at Titop Beach, where you can swim and sunbathe or climb to the peak for a panoramic photograph of the entire bay spread below. As the sun begins to set, you cruise back toward port, watching the light change across the water and the islands.
The tour ends at Ha Long International Cruise Port between 4:30pm and 6pm, depending on your morning departure time. Bottled water is provided throughout the day, and your guide speaks English.
Is this one for you?The tour runs 6 to 8 hours depending on your ship's arrival time, which means it fits inside a port day without cutting into time before or after your cruise schedule. If your ship docks early, you can take the 8:30am departure and still have the afternoon free. A later arrival gives you the 10:30am or 11:30am option instead.
