The Experience

The first day starts with a ride from Dalat through countryside to a coffee plantation where you taste Robusta, Arabica and Moca varieties, then continue to a local family home to try homemade rice wine. A silk-worm factory comes next, followed by Elephant Waterfall and the Buddhist Temple complex nearby, which holds a 74-meter-high Lady Buddha statue. You stop for lunch on the mountain road and finish the day in a floating village before heading to your hotel.

Day two begins at 6 am with a half-hour dugout canoe trip across Lak Lake, the second-largest natural lake in Vietnam and home to the M'nong people. Your guide explains their history and livelihood while you're on the water. After breakfast back at the hotel, you ride toward Dray Sap Waterfall, stopping at a local market to buy fresh chicken and baguettes for a picnic lunch in the national park, or eating at a restaurant instead. You swim at the waterfall and walk 15 minutes through the park to see a second waterfall. On the way to Buon Ma Thuot city, you pass a mushroom farm (seasonal), an incense-making workshop, and a cocoa plantation.

The final day is a ride back to Dalat through mountain views, stopping at Ta Dung Lake—called the second Halong Bay of the highlands—and walking to an H'mong village to see local life. A cashew plantation and factory comes next, where you watch workers process cashew products and can taste them; this region exports more cashew than anywhere else in the world. You also visit a rubber plantation, have lunch in a small mountain town, and arrive back in Dalat around 4 pm. The road is quiet, curvy, and lined with pine hills and cool air.
