Snorkel coral reefs in a marine protected area, then eat fresh seafood on the sand

A snorkeling day trip from Hoi An or Da Nang to Cham Island combines a speedboat ride, reef exploration in a marine protected area, visits to a fishing village and pagoda, swimming at two beaches, and seafood lunch—all with hotel pickup and a guide who speaks English or Vietnamese. The trip runs six hours and includes snorkeling gear and all transport. Children from age 4 are welcome; travelers should have moderate fitness.

The Experience

You get picked up at your Hoi An or Da Nang hotel and driven to the pier for a speedboat ride to Cham Island. The boat crosses to Lang Beach, where the day splits between snorkeling, swimming and walking through the island's fishing village. A guide leads you to the Marine Protected Area—the reef system where you actually spend time underwater with mask and fins—and also takes you to the Boat Shelter and Hai Tang Pagoda, a small temple on the island. The snorkeling gear is provided, and the guide speaks English or Vietnamese depending on your group.

After the reef, you move to either Bai Ong Ecological Zone or Bai Chong Beach to swim and rest. Lunch is a seafood meal served on the island, not back at the hotel. The whole day runs about six hours from pickup to return, so you're back with time left in the afternoon. The speedboat handles the transport both ways, and the driver waits for you—there's no separate ferry schedule to chase.

If you're staying in Da Nang instead of Hoi An, the same trip is available with a surcharge added at checkout. Snorkeling equipment, drinking water and the guide are all included. You'll want to bring a towel and sunscreen; the boat ride is smooth but the sun on the water is direct.

Is this one for you?Book from Hoi An if that's where you're staying and want to avoid the Da Nang surcharge; the pickup is included either way, so the choice is just about your hotel location. The six-hour timeframe fits a morning and early afternoon, leaving your evening free—useful if you land late or want to explore Hoi An's old town after you return.

Top questions

What is the Marine Protected Area around Cham Island like for snorkeling?

The Marine Protected Area is a coral reef system where you snorkel with a guide. The operator provides all snorkeling equipment, and the reef is the main underwater site for the day—you're in the water with mask and fins, not watching from the boat.

How much time do I actually spend snorkeling versus traveling and visiting other sites?

The day is six hours total from hotel pickup to return. Snorkeling in the Marine Protected Area is the main activity, but the itinerary also includes time at the Boat Shelter, Hai Tang Pagoda, and two beaches where you swim and rest. The speedboat ride takes time too, so snorkeling is the centerpiece, not the entire day.

Is the seafood lunch included, and where do we eat?

Yes, lunch is included and served on Cham Island itself—you eat on the beach after snorkeling and before the return boat ride. The meal is seafood, and drinking water is provided throughout the day.

Can I book this trip from Da Nang instead of Hoi An?

Yes, you can choose hotel pickup from Da Nang at checkout. A surcharge of $5 applies to the Da Nang option; the itinerary and inclusions are the same either way.

Are children allowed on this snorkeling trip?

Children are welcome from age 4. The trip includes snorkeling equipment for all ages, and the guide can adjust the reef time based on your child's comfort in the water.

What should I bring, and what's provided?

Snorkeling equipment, lunch and drinking water are all included. Bring a towel, sunscreen, a light cover-up and any personal items you need. The boat provides the mask, fins and snorkel.
