The Experience

"You'll want a jacket up there — it's cold even when Da Nang is hot," our driver said as we pulled away from the hotel at 8 AM. That small detail stuck with me, because it turned out to be exactly right. The Ba Na Hills day trip from Da Nang starts with a straightforward pickup from your hotel in the city center, then a drive up the mountain. The cable car ride itself takes you over the forest canopy, and when you step out at the first platform, you're standing in front of the Golden Bridge — a 150-meter span held up by two enormous stone hands rising from the mountainside. It's the kind of thing that looks unreal in photos, and somehow looks more unreal in person.

After the bridge, you take a second cable car route higher up to reach Fantasy Park, where the day opens up. There are games here — the Love Swing, Skiver Pilot, and others — but the real draw is the space itself and the views. By lunchtime you're eating a buffet at the restaurant on the mountain, and the temperature drop your driver mentioned earlier makes sense now. After lunch, the itinerary takes you to Chua mountain peak at 1,487 meters and the Ba Chua Thuong Ngan Temple. The panoramic view of Da Nang City and Da Nang Bay spreads out below you, and you can see why people make the trip. Around 3 PM, your driver meets you at the Ba Na Hills entrance gate and drives you back to your hotel.
