The experience

Pickup starts at 8:30am from your Port Vila accommodation. Pepeyo Village opens the day with a cultural performance: you watch custom dancing and a fire-walking display, then learn traditional practices and skills from local performers. The Blue Lagoon comes next. The water is slightly salty and bright blue from limestone springs mixing with tidal seawater. You can swim, try the rope swings into the water, or walk the white sand of Eton Beach. Seasonal organic fruits and juices are provided. At Eton Village, the Primary School is open for visits when classes are running.

Pangpang's massive ancient banyan trees are the stop where your guide explains the difference between male and female trees and how your ancestors used them. Lunch follows at Takara Lodge: a Melanesian-style buffet served to live music from a local string band. The World War 2 relics collection at Ernest's site tells the story of Vanuatu's role in the war through one man's passion for preserving it. Your final stop is Gideon's Landing, also known as Survivor Beach, where you have afternoon tea and the chance to snorkel if time allows before returning to your hotel around 4:30pm.

The tour runs eight hours and is built for all fitness levels. A professional guide speaks English or French throughout the day. If you're arriving on a cruise ship, the tour departs 45 minutes after the ship berths and returns an hour before scheduled departure, so the full itinerary fits inside your port call.
