The experience
The tour moves through Tashkent's landmarks at a pace set by your guide. You'll start at Amir Temur Square, where the statue of one of Uzbekistan's most important historical figures stands surrounded by green parks and fountains reflecting both Soviet-era and modern architecture. From there you walk through Mustaqillik Maydoni (Independence Square), with its monuments, tree-lined pathways, and the Arch of Good and Noble Aspirations topped by storks. The guide explains the city's transformation and what these sites mean to Uzbek identity.
Three metro stations anchor the middle of the day. Alisher Metro Station shows off oriental-style architecture with decorative domes and chandeliers inspired by the famous Uzbek poet; Cotton Farmer Metro Station features marble interiors and traditional Uzbek decorative elements; Independence Square Metro Station combines Soviet-era design with modern Uzbek identity. You ride the metro like locals and photograph the stations. The Courage Monument, dedicated to the 1966 earthquake and the city's rebuilding, sits in a peaceful park where the guide shares stories about how Tashkent was reconstructed with support from across the former Soviet Union.
Chorsu Bazaar, in the Old City, fills a blue dome with stalls selling fresh fruits, spices, dried fruits, nuts, traditional sweets, bread, textiles, and handmade crafts. You explore the lively atmosphere, taste local snacks, and watch vendors preparing authentic Uzbek food. Hazrati Imam Complex, also in the Old City, shows Islamic architecture, courtyards, mosques, and madrasahs decorated with traditional tilework and intricate designs. The final stop is Besh Qozon, where you watch chefs prepare plov in giant traditional cauldrons over open flames, then taste the dish alongside other local cuisine and tea. The air-conditioned vehicle and included water mean you move between stops without arranging transport or stopping to buy drinks.
