The experience
The tour starts at either morning or afternoon and moves through Bukhara on foot, stopping at sites that span centuries of Central Asian architecture and trade. You'll see the Lyabi-Hauz Ensemble with its three connected monuments, the 12th-century Magoki-Attori Mosque, and the Toki Telpakfurushon Trading Dome, which once anchored the city's commerce. The guide points out the Abdulazizkhan Madrasah built in 1652 with its intricate tile work and frescoes, and the Ulugbek Madrasah, one of the oldest buildings in the city, constructed by the grandson of Amir Timur.
The route takes in the Toqi Zargaron, known as the Dome of Jewelers and dating to the 16th century, before reaching the Kalyan Minaret: 47 meters tall and built in 1127. Nearby stand the Poi Kalyan Mosque, which can hold up to 12,000 worshippers, and the Miri Arab Madrasah from the early 16th century. You pass the Ark Fortress from the outside (the interior museums require separate time), then visit the Bolo-Hauz Mosque and the Ismail Samani Mausoleum, considered one of the earliest examples of Islamic funerary architecture in Central Asia.
The guide is a professional, not a trainee, and speaks English throughout. Visits to artisans' workshops are included to show local life and culture, though the tour does not focus on shopping. You'll need to cover entry fees separately, and meals and drinks are not provided. Small-group size keeps the pace manageable and the guide accessible.

Top questions
What happens if it rains?
It may be canceled due to bad weather. If that happens, you're offered another date or a refund. Free cancellation up to 24 h before the start.
What is the Kalyan Minaret and why is it significant?
The Kalyan Minaret is Bukhara's most iconic landmark, standing 47 meters tall and built in 1127 by the Karakhanid ruler Arslan Khan. It anchors the Poi Kalyan complex, which also includes the massive Poi Kalyan Mosque and the Miri Arab Madrasah, making it the visual and historical heart of the old city.
Does the tour include entry to the Ark Fortress?
No. The Ark Fortress is shown from the outside only, since visiting the interior museums would add an extra 1.5 hours to the tour. You can arrange separate entry if you want to explore inside.
What are the trading domes and what did they sell?
The trading domes are historic market structures from the 16th century. Toki Zargaron, the Dome of Jewelers, was the hub for gold and jewelry trading, while Toki Telpakfurushon sold hats and other goods. Both still stand as remnants of Bukhara's role as a Central Asian trade crossroads.
Can I choose between a morning and afternoon departure?
Yes. The tour runs in both morning and afternoon slots, so you can pick the time that fits the rest of your day in Bukhara.
What should I know about the artisans' workshops on the route?
Visits to artisans' workshops are planned to show local life and culture as part of the tour. The tour does not focus on shopping, so these stops are about observing traditional crafts and daily practice, not purchasing.
