The experience
What makes this tour different is the guide himself. He's a professional photographer trained in wilderness first aid and holds a Master Naturalist certification, so he can help you frame shots of Old Faithful, Grand Prismatic Spring or the Yellowstone River while explaining what you're actually looking at: the geology of the caldera, the ecology of the thermal basins, the history of the park. That dual expertise means you're not choosing between a good photographer and a good guide. You get both.
The route covers the major thermal features and waterfalls: Fountain Paint Pot with its mud pots, Grand Prismatic Spring (you can walk the boardwalk or hike the overlook depending on your group's fitness), Old Faithful and its geyser basin, Kepler Cascades, West Thumb's thermal pools, Hayden Valley where bears and wolves sometimes appear, the Yellowstone Upper Falls, and the Lower Falls with its yellow canyon walls. You stop anywhere you want to linger, skip anything that doesn't interest you, and spend as much or as little time hiking as your group prefers. The vehicle is air-conditioned, lunch and bottled water are included, and you'll have binoculars and a spotting scope available for wildlife and detail work.
Tours run April 17 through October 31 during Yellowstone's normal season. Winter tours aren't available. The tour lasts about ten hours, and your guide will pick you up from your lodging in the park or arrange a meeting point that works for your schedule.

Top questions
What happens if it rains?
It may be canceled due to bad weather. If that happens, you're offered another date or a refund. Free cancellation up to 24 h before the start.
Can I customize the stops and how much hiking we do on this tour?
Yes. The listed itinerary is a suggestion only. Your guide will adjust the route, the number of stops, and the hiking intensity based on what your group wants to see and how much walking you're comfortable with, from boardwalk strolls to a mile-long hike up to the Grand Prismatic overlook.
What's included in the tour price?
Transportation in an air-conditioned vehicle, lunch, bottled water, and use of binoculars and a spotting scope are all included. Yellowstone entrance fees are separate: $20 for US residents or $120 for international visitors, though you can use an America the Beautiful pass instead.
What can we actually see in Hayden Valley?
Hayden Valley is one of the park's best wildlife viewing areas. You have a chance to see bears or wolves as you drive through, and your guide will stop anywhere you want to watch or photograph animals or views.
How often does Old Faithful erupt, and will we see it?
Old Faithful erupts roughly every 60 to 90 minutes. You'll stop at the geyser basin and wait to see an eruption, or explore the basin and visitor center while you wait.

Yes. Infants and small children can ride in a pram or stroller, and the tour is suitable for all physical fitness levels. You control the hiking intensity and the pace, so families can adjust the experience to their needs.
