The experience

You meet at the Upper McKenzie Community Center where the guides fit you with wetsuits, splash tops and neoprene booties, all optional, then shuttle 15 minutes upriver to the boat launch. A quick safety talk covers what to expect, and then you're on the water for roughly 3 hours of paddling through class II and III rapids. The river meanders through some of the most lush old growth forest in Oregon, flowing out of ancient lava beds. Your guide handles the technical decisions, but you're doing the paddling. The rapids are designed for paddlers age 5 and older of any experience level.

Snacks are provided during the trip. After you finish, a 5-minute shuttle ride takes you back to the community center. The whole outing (gearing up, shuttle, safety talk, paddling and return) fits into a half-day window, so it works alongside other plans in the area.
