The day starts at the Deschutes River Outpost, where you meet your guide and get oriented before pushing off. The outpost has restrooms and plenty of parking, so you can arrive early and settle in. Once on the water, you'll paddle through a mix of terrain—beautiful canyon walls alternate with sections of whitewater that demand focus and coordination. The rapids vary in intensity, so there's something to work toward whether this is your first time in a boat or you've rafted before.
A live guide leads the whole trip and calls the line through each rapid, telling you when to paddle hard and when to hold steady. The guide speaks English, Spanish or Japanese depending on which departure you book. Warm temperatures and easy access to the river make the day comfortable, and the outpost is where the trip ends—no long shuttle or complicated logistics after you pull the boat ashore.
Families, friends and couples all run this river together. Children can join from age 4 onward. You'll need a moderate level of fitness to paddle for the full 6.5 hours, but the guide adjusts the pace and the effort to match the group.
