The experience
You start by learning to paddle from your certified guide, then launch into the Snake River for an 8-mile run through class II and III rapids. The Big Kahuna and Lunch Counter are the named drops, not the only ones, but the ones that earn their reputation. Between them the river opens into canyon views where bald eagles and osprey hunt, and the pace shifts between technical sections and stretches where the current does most of the work.
The whole outing takes 3 hours, including transport to and from the put-in. You wear a life jacket the entire time and hold a paddle that the guide has already shown you how to use: no experience needed, though moderate fitness makes the day easier. The guide calls out when to dig in and when to brace, and the rapids themselves teach you what happens when you don't.
What’s included
