The experience

The Wasatch Mountains hold wildflower fields, alpine lakes, streams, high plateaus and meadows where you'll spend the morning or afternoon shooting. Your guide picks locations based on what's in season and what interests you (whether that's wildlife, water, or open landscape), and adjusts the pace to match your fitness level. You work with your own camera while the guide walks you through composition, camera settings, the tricks that separate a snapshot from a photograph, and how to read light and timing. After 15 years running these workshops, the guide knows where to be and when, and what will actually be in front of you when you arrive.

The five-hour session covers the technical side (aperture, shutter speed, focal length, depth of field), but the real work is learning to see a scene the way a photograph needs it. You'll come away with images from the day and the skills to keep shooting on your own. Private transportation is included, so you move between locations without arranging a car, and the guide brings water and snacks along the way.

What’s included

  • Private transportation to and from the Wasatch Mountains locations.
  • five hours of hands-on instruction in composition, camera settings, and technique.
  • water and snacks during the workshop.

Is this one for you?Book this workshop if you want to move beyond automatic settings and learn how a photographer actually sees a scene. The guide's 30 years in the Wasatch Mountains and 15 years teaching means you're learning from someone who knows the light, the seasons and the locations, not a general photography class held anywhere.
