The experience

How do you get to a landmark two hours north of the city without renting a car for the day? A driver picks you up from your hotel or a local meeting point, handles the route, and brings you back, so you can focus on the walk itself. The Walkway Over the Hudson is 1.30 miles one way across a flat, paved deck that rises 212 feet above the river. The bridge connects to the Hudson Valley Rail Trail and draws over half a million visitors a year. You walk at your own pace, or rent a bike if you arrange it ahead of time. The choice is yours whether to cross one way and get picked up on the far side, or do the full round trip.

After the bridge, the driver takes you to Benmarl Winery, America's oldest vineyard, sitting on a 37-acre estate in Marlboro overlooking the Hudson Valley. The winery holds New York State Farm License number one and has built a reputation for consistency in an era when New York wines are gaining serious recognition. Your reservation is handled in advance. Wine tastings, lunch and gratuity for the winery staff can be added to your booking to make the day fully catered. Otherwise you visit and purchase what you want on-site. If Benmarl is unavailable on your date, the operator will book you at a comparable local winery instead.

The whole experience runs five to six hours door-to-door. The driver speaks English or Spanish. Minimum party size is two people, and the tour is private to your group only.
