What if you could snorkel with sea turtles without leaving Oahu's coast?

You board at Kewalo Basin, cruise past Diamond Head and the Waikiki coastline, then snorkel at Turtle Canyon where green sea turtles feed. The afternoon option includes lunch and drinks; morning trips include drinks only. Gear, life jackets, and a stable catamaran are provided, and if turtles don't show, you get a free re-ride on any Oahu, Big Island, or Maui sailing.

2h–3h

Step-by-step itinerary

  • Depart from Kewalo Basin
  • View Waikiki coastline from ocean
  • See iconic Diamond Head
  • Snorkel at Turtle Canyon
  • Enjoy Waikiki coastline on catamaran

The Experience

Turtle Canyon sits just offshore from Waikiki, and it's where Hawaiian green sea turtles come to feed and rest. The 65-foot Gold Coast catamaran departs from Kewalo Basin in the morning, and within an hour you're in the water with snorkeling gear in hand, watching these animals move through their natural habitat. The crew knows where to find them — it's a cleaning station, so the turtles show up regularly. You're not chasing them; they're there.

The boat itself is stable enough that most people don't feel seasick, even if the ocean's a little rough. Two full bathrooms, a full bar with local microbrews, and enough deck space that you're not crowded in with fifty other tourists. Diamond Head sits visible on the shore the whole time, and if it's winter (December through April), you might spot migrating whales passing by. The snorkeling gear is included, as are the drinks — beer, wine, cocktails, or unlimited nonalcoholic options if that's your preference.

The afternoon departure adds lunch: an island-inspired sandwich or wrap with chips, and they'll work with dietary needs if you mention it when you book. Either way, you're barefoot on deck (shoes stay at the pier), and the whole experience runs about half a day. If you don't see a turtle — which almost never happens — you can book another trip at no extra cost. That guarantee matters when you're planning a specific memory.

What’s included

  • Your day includes premium snorkeling gear, life jacket, and flotation devices.
  • complimentary local beer, wine, and signature cocktails.
  • unlimited nonalcoholic drinks.
  • and an island-inspired sandwich or wrap with chips if you book the afternoon trip (dietary options available with advance notice). Seasonal whale watching runs December through April. The catamaran is the largest and newest in Waikiki, with two full bathrooms and a full bar.
