A group bodyboard lesson in Waikiki pairs you with a professional instructor and up to three other students for a two-hour session that includes all equipment, a safety briefing, and complimentary shuttle transport from your hotel or a Waikiki meeting spot. You choose between group, family, semi-private or one-to-one instruction, and all options include the board, fins, rashguard and video review afterward.

The experience

The yellow shuttle picks you up from your Waikiki hotel or a designated meeting spot and takes you to the Ohana Surf Center at the Waikiki Beach Marriott. After gear check-in and a quick safety briefing, you're shuttled to the beach. The instructor discusses your experience level and comfort in the water, then you paddle out with a high-quality board. Group lessons keep the ratio at one instructor for every four students, so you get individual attention without the solo-lesson price tag.

Once you're back at the Surf Center, you'll review photos and videos from the session before the shuttle takes you back to your drop-off location. The whole thing (transport, instruction, equipment, taxes) is included in the price. If you don't swim, book a private lesson instead. If you're prone to seasickness, take a remedy you're used to before heading out. Come in your bathing suit, bring a towel, and apply sunscreen ahead of time.

Options range from a one-hour exclusive group or family lesson to two-hour semi-private or one-to-one sessions. Spanish, Japanese, Korean and Chinese-speaking instructors are available with at least 24 hours' notice. Photos and videos can be purchased separately, and wetsuit rental is optional if you want extra warmth in the water.
