The experience
Vermont Spirits Distillery opens the day: Vermont's oldest craft distillery, known for award-winning small-batch spirits made with local ingredients. Their Vermont Gold Vodka, distilled from 100% pure Vermont maple sap, is an industry first. The portfolio also includes No. 14 Bourbon finished with Pure Vermont Maple, Coppers American Gin, Coppers Sugarwood Gin, and Coppers Barrel Gin, all crafted with organic botanicals and hand-picked wild Vermont juniper berries. From there, the route stops at Quechee General Store, the area's first independently owned Cabot affiliate, stocked with the complete Cabot cheese collection, Vermont-made maple syrups, and farm-stand products from local producers.
Harpoon Brewery, founded in 1986 and employee-owned, anchors the middle of the day. Known for its Harpoon India Pale Ale, the brewery also produces award-winning year-round beers including Dark, UFO Hefeweizen, UFO Raspberry Hefeweizen, UFO White, UFO Light Force, and UFO Maine Blueberry, plus seasonal releases and the '100 Barrel Series' of one-of-a-kind batches. Lunch is available for purchase on the premises. Next comes Silo Distillery, a barn distillery in North Clarendon that sources grain from Grembowicz Farm and handles every step of production in-house, from grain selection through distillation. The barn setting and working silo tower create a distinctive tasting environment.
The final two stops round out the craft beer experience. Foley Brothers Brewing in Quechee (a family-run microbrewery that brews in small batches and experiments constantly) is the standard fifth stop. If Foley Brothers is closed on Tuesdays, River Roost Brewery in White River Junction takes its place. Long Trail Brewing Company, inspired by the 273-mile hiking trail through the Green Mountains and operating since 1989, concludes the tour. Located near a river with a cozy bar and friendly staff, Long Trail offers small-batch recipes alongside their flagship Long Trail Ale and Trail Hopper IPA. The guide returns all guests to their original hotel pickup location.
