A hands-on mosaic workshop in Saugus MA where you design and create your own Turkish glass lamp under expert instruction, choosing from five lamp styles and decorative patterns. The workshop runs about two and a half hours and includes all materials, traditional Turkish tea and sweets, and a take-home grouting kit with instructions to complete your piece. No experience needed. All skill levels welcome.

The experience

You pick your lamp style (portable, table, candle holder, mini moon or swan), and then work with vibrant glass tiles and beads to build the design you want. The studio instructors guide you through the process, sharing the history and techniques behind Turkish mosaic art as you craft. This is not a demonstration: you're handling the materials and making the decisions about color, pattern and placement the whole time.

While you work, you'll have complimentary Turkish tea and sweets, a small cultural touchstone woven into the creative process. The workshop materials are all included: glass pieces, lamp base, tools, everything you need to assemble your design. When the session ends, you take your lamp home along with a grouting kit and step-by-step instructions. Grouting is the final step that secures the tiles and finishes the piece. It's straightforward to do at home, and the studio walks you through it before you leave so you feel confident completing it on your own.

The studio is in Saugus MA and fully wheelchair accessible. Public transportation options are nearby. Children from age 8 are welcome, and the space accommodates strollers and prams if you're bringing younger family members. Can I choose which type of lamp I want to make?

Yes. You select from five styles at the start: portable lamp, table lamp, candle holder, mini moon lamp or swan lamp. Each one uses the same mosaic technique, so the choice is yours based on what you'd like to take home and use.

What happens after the workshop ends? Is my lamp finished?

Your lamp is assembled but not yet grouted. Grouting is the final step that locks the tiles in place and gives the piece its finished look. You take home a grouting kit with easy instructions, and the instructors show you how to do it before you leave so you can complete it at your own pace at home.

Do I need any art experience to join?
