The experience
The Trinity River's Pigeon Point section is one of California's most popular beginner-to-intermediate whitewater runs, and this trip stretches it into a full immersion rather than a quick splash. You'll hit exhilarating, technical Class III rapids (the guides partner with a professional photography company to capture you charging the big ones), but the day is built around what happens between them: multiple stops at pristine swimming holes where you can cool off, a short hike up a creek canyon to a two-tiered waterfall, and plenty of wildlife viewing as you float through granite channels known as Otter's Playpen. Two cliff jumping rocks let you choose your own adrenaline level, with 10 and 15-foot plunges into the river below.
Lunch is organic and made in-house: homemade salsa and chips, turkey, salami, hummus, farm-fresh vegetables, fruit, and a homemade dessert, with gluten-free and vegan options available. Wetsuits are provided at no extra cost if you need them. You'll travel to and from the river in an air-conditioned vehicle, and the whole day runs about six hours from the office meeting point in Junction City.
