The experience

The tour picks you up from your Temecula hotel and moves through three wineries, starting at Callaway Vineyard & Winery. You taste wine at each stop, totaling three glasses across the day. At Somerset Winery, the final destination, you get a production tour that walks you through the winemaking process, and Somerset is one of only eight wineries in the U.S. using the ancient terra-cotta fermentation method, a technique that's been around for over 8,000 years. The clay vessels ferment the wine without the tannins that oak barrels produce, giving the wine a different character entirely.

Lunch happens at The Vineyard Rose Restaurant, an on-site dining room at Callaway with a wine bar and terrace serving contemporary California cuisine. Food costs extra and must be pre-ordered 48 hours before your tour date. The operator texts you a lunch form the week of your departure. The driver and guide handle the route and pacing, and bottled water is available throughout the day. A five-hour tour means you're back by early afternoon.
