The Experience

The tour starts at Dog Rose in the Lincolnville neighborhood, a locally owned craft brewery on the south side of the historic district. Your guide meets you there, helps you pick your first drink—beer, wine, hard seltzer, or something else—and then leads you out into the streets. Dog Rose makes its own brews on site, but the whole crawl is built around choice: every stop offers multiple beverage types, so beer lovers and non-drinkers move through the same route together.

From there you walk through narrow brick-lined streets that have kept their colonial character since the 1700s. You'll pass the Father Miguel O'Reilly House, St. Augustine's oldest standing home, built in 1691 and now a museum; see the 1790 coquina house where both a nephew of Napoleon and Ralph Waldo Emerson stayed in the 1820s; and walk Aviles Street, one of the city's most intact historic passages. The guide tells you the stories—who lived where, what happened, why the architecture matters—while you move between stops. Food is included during the experience, so you're eating local bites between drinks, not just drinking on an empty stomach.

The route isn't fixed. It changes depending on the season and which partner establishments the guide wants to highlight that day, so you might hit different breweries or restaurants each time the tour runs. You'll see the Plaza, laid out by Spanish Royal Ordinance in 1573; Treasury Street, built only 7 feet wide to make it nearly impossible to steal gold being transported from the ships; and the Castillo de San Marcos, the oldest and largest masonry fort in the continental United States, finished in 1695. The whole thing takes three hours, which means you can do this in the morning or afternoon and still have the rest of your day open.
