Parasailing in South Padre Island launches from a 31-foot ocean boat towing you 600 feet above Laguna Madre Bay for a 7–10 minute flight with views across the entire island. Check in 30 minutes before your chosen departure time at SPI Excursions, located next to Lobo Del Mar Cafe; the full outing takes about an hour including the boat ride. You can fly as a single, double (tandem) or triple, and a live guide in English, Spanish or Japanese is on board.
The Experience
The boat ride out to the parasailing zone takes roughly 30 minutes depending on group size, giving you time to settle in and watch the water change color as you move into deeper bay. Once you're positioned, the crew attaches you to the 600-foot line and you lift off the back of the boat. The flight itself runs 7–10 minutes, long enough to see the whole curve of South Padre Island below you and the clarity of Laguna Madre Bay stretching out in all directions. The water is clear enough that you'll see it, not just feel the height.
You can fly alone, with one other person (tandem), or as a group of three. The crew handles all the rigging and the boat does the work; you're strapped in and the line does the rest. A live guide in English, Spanish or Japanese is with you the whole time, so any questions about what you're seeing or how the setup works get answered on the spot.
