You’ll hike through Alaskan forest near Skagway, tackle ropes courses and six canopy ziplines (including that wild “Walk the Plank”), and laugh along with local guides who know every muddy root. Harnesses, snacks, all gear—it’s covered. You might surprise yourself up there.
I’ll admit it—I wasn’t sure I’d go through with the “Walk the Plank” part of this Skagway zipline tour. The drive up the Klondike Highway was already something, with our guide (I think her name was Maddy?) pointing out old gold rush buildings and telling stories that made me forget I was nervous. There’s this moment when you step off the van and smell the wet pine needles and moss—sort of sharp, sort of sweet—and suddenly you realize you’re really here in Alaska.
The hike to the Adventure Park is short but my legs felt it—roots everywhere, rocks slippery from last night’s rain. Maddy kept cracking jokes about her own clumsy hiking style so I didn’t feel too bad. When we got to the ropes course, they fitted us with harnesses and helmets (mine was a bit crooked but I just rolled with it). The first time I stepped onto those swinging bridges my hands went clammy on the cables. But there’s something about hearing everyone else’s nervous laughter echoing through the trees that made me braver. And then came the zip lines—six in total—each one a little higher and faster. The wind whipped my face and I could hear someone shouting encouragement from below (maybe for me, maybe not).
I still think about how quiet it got up there between zips—just that soft creak of wood underfoot and birds somewhere above us. The “Walk the Plank” zipline felt like forever before I jumped; Maddy winked at me and said “You got this.” Not sure if my scream was dignified but hey, I made it across. My hands smelled like metal from gripping the trolley so hard. We finished back on solid ground with some snacks (granola bars never taste as good as after adrenaline), swapping stories with people who were strangers two hours ago but suddenly felt familiar.
Your day includes narrated transport from downtown Skagway up Klondike Highway, all technical gear (harnesses, helmets), expert local guides throughout every step of the ropes course and ziplines, plus snacks to keep you going before heading back down to town.
