The Experience

The day starts at the Skagway docks and heads straight up the Klondike Highway toward Canada. Your guide narrates the drive, stopping at Pitchfork Falls — a 2,000-foot cascade that drops into the Skagway River underneath the White Pass and Yukon Railway bridge — and at the White Pass summit, where the views open across the valleys and ridges that shaped the Gold Rush. You'll pass through the historic sites and buildings of the Klondike era, the guide explaining what you're looking at and how it connects to Skagway and the Yukon's past.

The Tutshi Sled Dog Camp sits in the Canadian tundra at the end of the drive. Here you meet a real musher and their team of Alaskan Huskies — the canine athletes that pull the cart you're about to ride in. The camp has a large gated play area, an educational space with seating, and a staging area for the cart ride. You'll climb into the cart and feel the huskies pull you through the tundra, then return to spend as much time as you want playing with the puppies and adult dogs. The trainers and handlers are there to answer questions and tell you about the dogs; there's no rushing you out.

The camp has a small gift shop and snacks for purchase if you want them. On the return drive to Skagway, you have time to process what you've seen — the wildlife, the landscape, the dogs themselves — before the guide drops you back at the cruise ship docks.
