Five hours into the Yukon's gold rush history and alpine wilderness

The experience
The tour leaves Skagway and climbs toward the White Pass, where Denver Glacier hangs above Summit Lake surrounded by old-growth forest and the tracks of the White Pass & Yukon Route Railroad. From there, the route crosses into British Columbia, passing waterfalls, turquoise glacial lakes, and aspen slopes before entering Yukon Territory. The landscape shifts as you travel: towering peaks give way to tundra and wildflower fields, each stop timed for photos of the sweeping terrain.
Carcross is the heart of the day: a self-governing First Nations community at the head of Lake Bennett, where thousands of gold rushers once stopped to resupply before heading into the Klondike. You explore the beach-like shores, browse the downtown shopping and art center, and can get your passport stamped at the Visitor's Center. On the way there and back, you pass Bove Island, where prospectors built makeshift boats on Bennett Lake's shores in the late 1890s, and stop at the Carcross Desert: an anomaly of sand and sparse vegetation in an otherwise alpine world.
The tour operates in all weather and suits all fitness levels. Temperatures can shift from Skagway's, so layering is wise. You'll need a current valid passport to cross US and Canadian customs. A professional guide leads the group, and lunch (a sandwich and chips) plus bottled water are provided. The minimum is 2 people per booking. The maximum is 12.
