Shell Key Preserve sits in shallow, clear water where a guide leads small groups through mangrove islands and into open shallows. You start with a safety briefing and paddling instruction on land, then push off with the guide setting the pace. If the tide is high, the guide navigates a narrow mangrove tunnel: a passage that only exists when water levels rise. If the tide is low, the sandbars emerge and you beach the kayak to collect shells and rest.

The clear kayak itself is the whole point. You sit inside a transparent hull and look straight down at the bottom: sand, seagrass, crabs moving across it, small fish darting past.
