You walk into a room. The door locks behind you. Sixty minutes on the clock. The Escape Game San Francisco sits right in Fisherman's Wharf, steps from the water and the noise of the pier, and inside it's just you, your group, and the problem in front of you. A game guide briefs you for fifteen minutes first — walks you through the rules, shows you the exit button (yes, there's always an exit button), and then you're in.

There are six rooms to choose from, each one a different scenario. The Depths has you uncovering secrets in a lab. Gold Rush sends you hunting for hidden gold in the California hills. Prison Break puts you inside Alcatraz trying to get out. Timeliner: Train Through Time is the newest one — you're saving the future. None of them are dark or meant to scare you; they're designed to be exciting and solvable, the kind of thing a mixed group of ages can actually do together. You need teamwork, communication, a bit of lateral thinking, and honestly just the willingness to try things that might not work the first time.

Groups go up to eight players, so you can bring friends, family, coworkers, whoever. If you don't book the whole room, other people might join your team — it's a shared experience, which means strangers become your puzzle-solving partners for an hour. After you escape (or time runs out), there's a fifteen-minute debrief where you can talk through how you solved it, take photos, maybe grab a Ghirardelli sundae from the counter next door as a celebration or a consolation. The whole thing, from arrival to leaving, takes about ninety minutes.

An adult eighteen or older has to be in the room with anyone under fifteen, and the games are recommended for ages thirteen and up, though younger kids can play if they're ready for it.
