The experience

The tour starts near the Ferry Building in downtown San Francisco, where your guide orients you to the city's layout and history before boarding the first cable car. You ride up the steep grade to Nob Hill to see the grand mansions built by San Francisco's first millionaires during the Gold Rush era. From there, a second cable car takes you to either San Francisco City Hall (weekdays) or the Cable Car Museum (weekends), where you go inside to learn how the cable car system operates and the building's role in the city's history.

The route then shifts to the neighborhoods that shaped modern San Francisco. A historic streetcar carries you to the Castro, the epicenter of the LGBTQ movement and a place the city is known for worldwide. A short walk brings you to Mission Dolores Park, one of the nicest open spaces in the city, with views back toward downtown. The Mission itself is where San Francisco was born, and the guide walks you through that history as you move through the district.

The bus takes you next to Haight-Ashbury, the neighborhood forever linked to the hippie generation and the Summer of Love. You'll see the murals and street art that still define the area's aesthetic, and the tour ends here: the perfect time and place to grab lunch before heading out.
