The experience
You start on the water, paddling through the Salmon River's rapids with an expert guide steering the group through the canyon. The morning focuses on navigating the whitewater while taking in the landscape: rugged canyon walls and the river itself are the setting for the paddling portion. Partway through, you pull ashore for the historic mine tour and gold panning demonstration, where the guide walks you through what the area's mining past looked like and gives you a chance to pan for gold yourself.
Lunch arrives as a riverside barbecue spread: grilled entrees, fresh salads, appetizers, and homemade desserts served right on the riverbank. This break gives you time to rest and refuel before heading back out on the water to paddle to the take-out point. The guide handles the route and timing, so you focus on the paddling and the stops. Professional photography is available to capture the day if you want it.
Life jackets are provided. You'll need to bring water shoes or sandals, a swimsuit, sun protection clothing (sun shirt, quick-dry pants, rain jacket, fleece), a hat, sunglasses with straps, sunscreen, and a water bottle. All participants sign a liability waiver before starting.
