Step-by-step itinerary

Explore Rocky Mountain National Park

  • Start tour in Estes Park
  • Travel through meadows and aspen groves
  • Visit waterfalls along swift flowing rivers
  • Stop at Alpine Visitor Center
  • Hike accessible trail to Alluvial Fan

The experience

The tour starts in historic downtown Estes Park and climbs through terrain that shifts as elevation rises: lowland meadows give way to aspen groves, then swift-flowing rivers and mountain lakes. When Trail Ridge Road is open, the route reaches the highest point and the Alpine Visitor Center, which operates from Memorial Day through fall and closes for winter in October. If weather or seasonal closures block the high route, your guide takes you to other areas of the park instead: the destination stays Rocky Mountain National Park, but the specific stops change based on conditions.

You travel in a Green Jeep that holds up to ten people, so groups larger than that are split across multiple vehicles. The three-hour window includes multiple stops where you get out to hike short sections and watch for wildlife. The Alluvial Fan, a cascade flowing through a boulder field off the Endovalley road, is one accessible option. The trail there was rebuilt in 2020 to be fully accessible, with a 56-foot bridge crossing the Roaring River and views of the Mummy Range and Horseshoe Falls. Weather permitting, sledding is also possible at some stops.

Park entry and timed-entry reservation are included in the price. The tour operates year-round, though winter conditions and seasonal closures mean the high-altitude sections may not always be reachable. Your guide will know on the day which areas are passable and will plan the route accordingly. A two-person minimum applies, and the tour is led by a live guide speaking English.

Top questions

Can children come?

Yes. Ticket types: Child (under 13).

What happens if it rains?

It may be canceled due to bad weather. If that happens, you're offered another date or a refund. Free cancellation up to 24 h before the start.

What happens if Trail Ridge Road is closed when I book?

Trail Ridge Road closes seasonally and may close temporarily for weather. If it is closed on your tour date, your guide substitutes other areas of Rocky Mountain National Park so you still spend the full three hours exploring the park. The specific stops change but the destination and experience remain the same.

Can I hike during the tour, or is it mostly driving?

The tour includes multiple stops where you get out and hike short sections. One option is the Alluvial Fan trail, a fully accessible path with a 56-foot bridge over the Roaring River and views of the Mummy Range and waterfalls. Sledding is also possible at some stops if weather permits.

How many people ride in each Jeep?

Each Green Jeep holds up to ten passengers. If your group is larger than ten, the tour splits across multiple Jeeps so everyone travels together as one group with the same guide and itinerary.

Is the Rocky Mountain National Park entrance fee included?

Yes, the park pass and timed-entry reservation are included in the tour price. If you are a non-US citizen, an additional park entrance fee applies at checkout.

What time does the tour start?

The tour departs from downtown Estes Park and runs for three hours. Contact the operator for the exact departure time, as it may vary by season.
