The experience
You start on the mountain. The zipline course at Gold Camp sits integrated into the wooded terrain, and you move from cliff to cliff between the trees, taking in the views of snow-capped peaks and the Arkansas River as you go. Your guide handles the setup and the safety briefing. You operate the equipment. The morning ends with a break for lunch provided by your guides.
The afternoon is the Numbers. This section of the Arkansas River runs Class III-V rapids, each one punctuated by continuous whitewater. The notorious part is the steep ledge drop into No. 5 rapid. The kind of moment that makes the day worth the drive. You'll be in a helmet, wet suit and splash jacket, and your guide rows you through the sequence. The whole activity runs about seven hours from start to finish.
Physical fitness matters here. The source states good physical condition is required, and the weight range is 50 to 250 lbs. Secure footwear is essential: no flip-flops or Crocs. You need to be at least 15 years old. If you're coming from out of town, note that transportation to and from the attractions is not included, so plan your own way to the meeting point.

Is this one for you? You're doing both activities yourself, not watching from the sidelines: the guide leads and rows, but you zip and paddle. Book this if you want a full morning and afternoon of action in one trip, and you're comfortable with Class III-V whitewater and heights. If you prefer one activity or need a gentler pace, look for a half-day rafting option on a lower section instead.

Top questions
What's the difference between Class III and Class V rapids?
Class III rapids have moderate waves and some obstacles that require maneuvering. Class V rapids are extremely difficult, with large waves, powerful currents and significant hazards. The Numbers section includes both, so you'll experience a range of intensity across the afternoon.
Do I need rafting experience to book this?
No prior experience is required. Your guide handles the rowing and navigation. You follow instructions and hold on. The activity is designed for intermediate to advanced paddlers in terms of fitness and nerve, not technical skill.
What happens if I'm not comfortable with the zipline or the rapids?
Both activities have minimum age, weight and fitness requirements built in to keep you safe. If you're within those ranges and in good physical condition, the guide will walk you through everything. You decide your comfort level on the day, but the activity is structured around people who want to do both.
How long is the rafting part?
The whole activity is about seven hours. The zipline course takes the morning, lunch is in the middle, and the Numbers rafting section fills the afternoon. The exact breakdown depends on water conditions and your group's pace.
What do I need to bring?
Wear secure footwear: hiking boots or water shoes work well. Bring a towel and a change of clothes for after. Sunscreen and a water bottle are smart. The guide provides helmet, wet suit and splash jacket, so you don't need to rent or buy gear separately.
