The experience
The lesson starts with your instructor teaching you how to read the water, which waves to select, how to paddle into position, and the timing that makes the difference between watching a wave pass and riding it. You'll learn the pop-up motion on the board in the shallows before paddling out, so the mechanics are solid before you're in deeper water. The instructor covers lineup etiquette and ocean safety alongside the technique, keeping the focus on what actually works instead of what looks impressive.
Almost all first-time surfers catch waves in the first lesson. Your instructor adjusts the pace to what you need: some people find their balance in the first ten minutes, others take longer, and the lesson doesn't rush either one. The crew teaching here includes world surf league competitors and watermen who've traveled the globe surfing, so they've taught every body type and every level of nervousness. Surfboard and wetsuit come with the lesson, so you show up ready to get in the water.
The lesson runs 90 minutes total. You'll need at least a moderate level of physical fitness (paddling and popping up are real work), and the water entry means you should be comfortable in the ocean. Children from age 6 are welcome. Public transportation options are available nearby if you're not driving.
What’s included
- Surfboard and wetsuit for the full 90 minutes.
- instruction in paddling, wave selection, pop-up technique, lineup etiquette and ocean safety.
- one-on-one or small-group pacing matched to your speed.

Is this one for you?The lesson asks you to paddle and pop up repeatedly, real physical work, so you'll need moderate fitness and comfort getting wet and tired. If you're looking for a gentle introduction to the water, this is not it. If you want to actually ride waves instead of watching from the beach, the effort is what makes it possible.

Top questions
Can children come?
Yes. Ticket types: Youth (6 to 17 years). Children under 6 can't be included in the booking.
What happens if it rains?
It may be canceled due to bad weather. If that happens, you're offered another date or a refund. Free cancellation up to 24 h before the start.
Will I actually ride a wave if I've never surfed before?
Almost all first-time surfers catch waves in the first lesson. Your instructor teaches you the pop-up and paddle technique in shallow water first, then takes you out to select waves you can actually ride, not the ones that look big, but the ones that match your skill level that day.
What do I need to bring, and what's included?
Surfboard and wetsuit are included with the lesson. Bring a towel, change of clothes, and water to drink. You'll need a valid ID if you're paying by card, and the instructor will ask about any injuries or health concerns before you paddle out.
How long does the lesson actually take in the water?
The lesson is 90 minutes total. Most of that time is spent in or paddling toward the water: your instructor doesn't waste time on the beach once you're ready to start.
What if I have an old shoulder injury or other health concern?
Tell your instructor about any injuries, spinal issues, or health conditions before the lesson starts. The lesson is not recommended for travelers with spinal injuries or poor cardiovascular health, and pregnant travelers should sit this one out. Your instructor can suggest modifications for other concerns, but some conditions make surfing unsafe.
