Parasailing in Catalina Island is a tandem or triple flight 800 feet above Avalon Bay, lasting 8–10 minutes in the air with takeoff and landing from the boat. No experience is needed. You fly with a USCG-licensed crew, life jacket and harness included. Choose to dip your toes in the water on descent or stay dry, and observers can purchase seats on the boat to watch.

The experience

You arrive at the boat and get suited into a harness and life jacket. The crew handles the setup, no skill required, and you board with one or two other passengers if you're booked as a tandem or triple flight. The boat motors out into Avalon Bay, and when the crew is ready, you're towed behind it on the parasail line, climbing steadily to 800 feet. The whole flight lasts 8–10 minutes in the air. Takeoff and landing both happen from the back of the boat, so there's no jumping from a platform or swimming out.

On the way down, you decide whether to dip your toes in the water or stay completely dry. The crew can arrange either one. If someone in your group wants to come along but not fly, observer seats are available on the boat for purchase. The activity runs about an hour total, and all ages can participate. Children as young as six are welcome, though infants must sit on an adult's lap. A digital photo package is available if you want shots of yourself in the air.

Catalina Xtreme Parasail partners with the Susan G. Komen foundation and donates a percentage of flight fees to breast cancer research and awareness. Life jackets, harnesses, the 800-foot flight option and a USCG-licensed crew are all included in the price. Harbor use tax is covered as well.

Is this one for you?Book the Early Bird Special if you want to fly in the morning before the afternoon crowds. The standard option works better if you prefer a midday or afternoon departure.
