Snorkeling in Panama City Beach: Private Sailboat Charter
Snorkel Shell Island and sail the Gulf without planning the route or the boat.
A 3-hour private snorkeling charter on the Daydreams, a 46-foot sailboat in Panama City Beach, takes up to 12 guests into shallow waters around Shell Island to see marine life, then sails into the Gulf of Mexico to watch for dolphins. The captain and first mate plan the itinerary with you, fuel and all beverages are included, and the boat operates in the calmer waters of St. Andrews Bay even when Gulf conditions are rough.
The Experience
What makes this different from a group snorkel tour is the sailboat itself—you're not motoring out on a dive boat, you're sailing. The Daydreams has a bow for sunbathing, an aft seating area, a full salon, galley and cabins, so the three hours unfolds between the water and the boat rather than just the water. The captain and first mate work with you to shape the day: you decide how long to spend snorkeling around Shell Island, collecting shells and watching for fish and other marine life in shallow water, then head back aboard to relax while the boat sails into the Gulf. That's when you watch for dolphins alongside the boat and work through the complimentary beer, wine, rum punch and soft drinks—you can bring your own food and drinks too if you want.
The boat holds up to 12 guests, so it's genuinely private: you're not sharing the experience with strangers. Snorkeling equipment is provided, and the captain and first mate are there to help you in and out of the water and to answer questions about what you're seeing. The tour operates in St. Andrews Bay, which stays calmer than the open Gulf even on days when the Gulf itself is rough, so weather rarely shuts it down. Red flag warnings don't affect the tour—the bay conditions are often much smoother than what you'd find offshore.
The price includes fuel, ice, water and all the drinks, so there are no surprise costs once you're aboard. A 20% gratuity for the captain and crew is requested at check-in. Bring sunscreen, a towel and whatever snacks or drinks you'd like to add to what's already on board.

What's the water like for snorkeling around Shell Island?
Shell Island snorkeling happens in shallow water where you can see different species of marine life without needing deep-water skills. The water is calm enough that the tour operates even on days when the Gulf is rougher, since the boat stays in St. Andrews Bay.
How much time do we actually spend in the water snorkeling?
The full charter is three hours, and you spend as much of that time snorkeling as you want—the captain and first mate work with you to plan how long to stay at Shell Island before heading back to the boat to sail and watch for dolphins.
Is the sailboat comfortable if someone doesn't want to snorkel the whole time?
Yes. The Daydreams has a bow for sunbathing, an aft seating area, a full salon with a galley, and cabins below, so guests who want to rest, eat or just sit on deck have plenty of space while others are in the water.
What drinks and food are included?
Beer, wine, rum punch, soda and water are complimentary throughout the sail. You're welcome to bring your own food and drinks aboard as well, so you can pack whatever you'd like to eat during the three hours.
Can we bring children on the private charter?
Yes. Infants and small children can come along, and the tour is suitable for all physical fitness levels. The captain and crew will help you plan an itinerary that works for your group.
Does the tour run if the weather is bad?
The tour operates in all weather conditions and is not affected by red flag warnings, since it sails in St. Andrews Bay where conditions are often much calmer than the open Gulf. Dress appropriately for the weather and water conditions.
