The experience

You'll board the Dolphin Warrior, a high-speed Zodiac, and head offshore along Oahu's west side. The boat carries a small group, and the crew watches for dolphins in their natural habitat. When they spot a pod, you get multiple chances to jump in the water and swim alongside them, or stay aboard if you prefer to watch from the boat. The water is open ocean, not a pool or enclosed area, so conditions and sightings depend on what's actually out there that day.

After the dolphin interaction, the crew serves lunch (a locally made turkey sandwich or veggie wrap with chips, green tea, or hot cocoa), while you're still on the water. Then you move to the snorkeling site on the same reef system. You'll use provided snorkeling gear to swim with Hawaiian green sea turtles and tropical reef fish. The whole outing runs 3 hours from the time you're picked up.

As you travel the west side, watch for seasonal whales between November and March. They migrate through this area. Bottled water is provided throughout. The air-conditioned vehicle means you're not sitting in the sun the whole time you're on land. If you get seasick easily, take your remedy about an hour before departure. Children as young as 5 can join, though the operator notes you should have at least moderate fitness to handle the speedboat and ocean swimming.
