The Experience

The tour starts in Harlem, where you'll ride through Upper Manhattan and hear the stories behind the neighborhood's development. The Apollo Theater gets a brief explanation from outside—the venue where Ella Fitzgerald, The Jackson 5 and Marvin Gaye made their debuts. From there the bus heads north into the Bronx, birthplace of rap and hip hop, where you'll see Yankees Stadium and the Big Pun Mural, a street art tribute to the legendary rapper Christopher Rios. The Bronx-Whitestone Bridge, a suspension bridge that opened in 1939, carries you across the East River into Queens.

Queens is one of the most ethnically diverse counties in the US, with residents speaking over 100 languages. You'll pass through the Malba neighborhood and take a short walk through Flushing Meadows Corona Park, home to the Unisphere from the 1964 World's Fair, the US Open tennis championship and the New York Mets. After crossing into Brooklyn, the tour visits Dumbo and Williamsburg, where the Jewish community centers its life on Lee Avenue. You'll spend 20 minutes under the Brooklyn Bridge before deciding what comes next.

If you booked the Coney Island option, the bus heads to the famous boardwalk for lunch at the original Nathan's restaurant, where you can order their legendary hot dogs, fries and hamburgers. Weather permitting, you can explore Luna Park (the amusement park that opened in 2010) and the New York Aquarium, or take a quick swim if you bring a suit. If you prefer to skip Coney Island, the tour ends in Brooklyn and you can explore on your own. Either way, the return to Manhattan passes the historic Brooklyn Bridge and crosses back over the East River.

What’s included

  • The tour includes transportation by shared bus with a live guide in English or Spanish.
  • visits to Harlem and the Apollo Theater, the Bronx (including Yankees Stadium and the Big Pun Mural), Queens (Flushing Meadows Corona Park and the Unisphere), Brooklyn (Dumbo, Williamsburg and the Brooklyn Bridge).
  • and, if you select that option, time at Coney Island's boardwalk, Luna Park and the New York Aquarium, plus lunch at Nathan's restaurant (food and drinks are your own cost).

Is this one for you?Choose the version without Coney Island if you want to move through all five boroughs and end with time to explore Brooklyn on your own pace. Add Coney Island if you want the full day shaped for you—the boardwalk, the amusement park and a meal stop are already in the route, so the day holds together without you planning the next move.

Top questions

What's the difference between the tour with Coney Island and without it?

The tour without Coney Island ends in Brooklyn under the Brooklyn Bridge, giving you the option to explore that borough on your own. The version with Coney Island continues to the boardwalk, Luna Park, the New York Aquarium and Nathan's restaurant, where lunch is on your own. Both routes cover Harlem, the Bronx, Queens and Brooklyn.

How many bridges does the tour cross?

Three: the Bronx-Whitestone Bridge (opened in 1939, carrying you from the Bronx into Queens), the bridge into Brooklyn, and the historic Brooklyn Bridge on the return to Manhattan.

What languages does the guide speak?

The guide conducts the tour in either English or Spanish, depending on which option you select at checkout.

Can we stop to eat during the tour?

If you book the Coney Island option, you'll have time at Nathan's restaurant on the boardwalk to buy lunch (not included in the tour price). The tour itself does not include meal stops in the other boroughs.

Is there time to swim at Coney Island?

Weather and the itinerary permitting, you can enjoy a quick swim at Coney Island if you bring a swimming suit. This is only available on the option that includes Coney Island, and it depends on conditions on the day.

What is the Unisphere and where is it?

The Unisphere is a large steel globe structure left over from the 1964 World's Fair. It stands in Flushing Meadows Corona Park in Queens, where you'll take a short walk during the tour.
