The experience

The Maid of the Mist is the anchor. You board at the Observation Tower, get a souvenir rain poncho, and ride a fully electric double-deck boat down past the American Falls and into the basin of Horseshoe Falls, where 600,000 gallons of water fall per second. The boat ferries through the roiling whitewater and massive rock formations before returning to shore. This is the ride most people come for, and it happens early in the pass.

From there, the Cave of the Winds takes you closer to the water than the boat does. You start in the World Changed Here Pavilion, a new indoor space with an eight-minute movie about the geology and history of the Falls. Then an elevator drops you 175 feet into the Niagara Gorge. You follow wooden walkways to the Hurricane Deck, a railing that puts you 20 feet from the billowing torrents of Bridal Veil Falls: the smallest of the three but the closest you'll stand to any of them. Bring wet-friendly footwear. The cave no longer provides sandals.

The Prospect Point Observation Tower gives you the only panoramic view of all three falls at once: the American Falls, Horseshoe Falls, and Bridal Veil Falls. The Crow's Nest, a series of stairs at the base of the gorge, offers air conditioning and direct spray from the mist. From there, you walk the three historic bridges that link Goat Island to the Three Sisters Islands, where you see the upper rapids racing toward the falls. The entire pass takes about four hours and covers the major vantage points most visitors want without having to buy separate tickets.

Top questions

Can children come?

Yes. Ticket types: Child (6 to 13 years); Infant (under 6): free.

What's the difference between the Maid of the Mist boat and the Cave of the Winds?

The Maid of the Mist is a boat ride through the basin of Horseshoe Falls where you experience the full force of the water from the river. The Cave of the Winds takes you on foot down into the gorge to stand 20 feet from Bridal Veil Falls on the Hurricane Deck, so you get two different angles and two different falls.

Do I need to bring anything special for this pass?

Bring footwear that can get wet, since you'll walk the wooden decks at the Cave of the Winds and they're exposed to the spray. Rain ponchos are provided at both the boat and the cave, so you don't need to bring rain gear.

Can I do this pass if I use a wheelchair?

All areas and surfaces are wheelchair accessible, and the Observation Tower has elevators to reach different levels. The Cave of the Winds includes an elevator descent of 175 feet into the gorge, so you can access the Hurricane Deck. The bridges to the Three Sisters Islands are also accessible.

How long does the whole pass take?

The pass takes about four hours from start to finish, covering all four attractions with the guide leading the group through each stop.

What are the three falls I'll see?

American Falls, Horseshoe Falls, and Bridal Veil Falls make up Niagara Falls. Horseshoe Falls is the largest and the one you ride closest to on the Maid of the Mist. Bridal Veil Falls is the smallest, and you see it from the Hurricane Deck in the Cave of the Winds. The Prospect Point Observation Tower is the only spot where you can see all three in one view.
