itinerary

Step-by-step itinerary

Day 1 — Nashville history and mural tour

  • Board classic open-air BRONCO
  • Tour Nashville city sights
  • Learn Nashville music history
  • Explore back alleys and stories
  • Stop at historic murals
  • Take pictures at murals

“Y’all ever wonder why this street smells like barbecue even at 10am?” Big E asked as we rolled down Broadway, top down, wind tangling my hair. I’d barely settled into the old Bronco’s cracked leather seat before he was off—pointing out a faded sign above a honky-tonk and telling us about some country singer who used to sneak in through the alley behind it. The city felt different from up here—bigger somehow, but also closer. I could smell coffee drifting from somewhere (maybe Bongo Java?) and there was this sharp whiff of rain on hot pavement even though the sky was clear. Nashville does that.

We stopped at a mural—one of those big colorful ones you see all over Instagram—and Big E hopped out first. He waved at a woman sweeping her stoop across the street (“That’s Miss Carla, she’s lived here since before I was born”). He told us about how the muralist got started painting guitars for tips on Lower Broad. It wasn’t just facts; it felt like gossip you weren’t supposed to know. I tried to get a photo without squinting but the sun was bouncing off everything. Someone in our group asked if all tours in Nashville were this personal—Big E just grinned and said, “Only if you’re lucky.”

I didn’t expect to laugh so much on a city tour. There were stories about musicians getting kicked out of bars, secret tunnels under old buildings, and one spot where apparently Johnny Cash once lost his wallet (Big E swears he saw it). We zigzagged through back alleys where you could still smell last night’s beer and hear someone practicing fiddle behind a half-open window. It all went by fast—maybe an hour and a half? But it felt like we’d seen more than just landmarks; we’d gotten some of Nashville’s secrets too. I still think about that view from the Bronco when the light hit the river just right—guess that’s what sticks with me.
