The Experience
The tour opens at the shop with your choice of drink—beer, wine, or a non-alcoholic option—and introductions to your guide and the other walkers. From there you move into Wynwood itself, a neighborhood that has transformed from warehouses into a district where nearly every surface holds a mural. Your guide walks you through the striking black-and-white design of the Wynwood Garage, points out creative sidewalk stencils and art stickers on street signs and lamp posts, and explains how the space has drawn artists from around the world. The route criss-crosses the district down many streets, out-of-the-way alleys, and parking lots so you see hundreds of murals and get a sense of the whole area.
The guide shares Wynwood's transformation story—how the neighborhood became what it is—and highlights the range of work on display: sports icons, ocean scenes, city views, enigmatic figures, and abstract designs. You'll learn about spray paint techniques and other unconventional methods artists use to create these pieces, and understand the difference between graffiti and invited public art. The tour covers the neighborhood's emergence as a gallery district without walls, where the work itself is the draw.
Many guests ask to visit Wynwood Walls after the tour ends—the epicenter of the art district, a collection of curated murals in courtyards formed by former warehouses. As of January, Wynwood Walls charges entry; check their website for details. The Museum of Graffiti, with its indoor exhibition space, eleven exterior murals, and fine art gallery, is another stop some visitors add on their own time. The tour itself runs 90 minutes and operates in all weather, so dress for the conditions.
