The Experience
The tour moves by golf cart through Wynwood's streets, alleys, parking lots and byways—the cart criss-crosses the district so you see hundreds of murals and get the shape of the whole area. Your driver/guide stops at 6+ spots chosen to showcase the most interesting work, and at each one you get out for pictures and conversation. The guide walks you through the backstory of the district itself, the technique behind the pieces on view, biographical details of the artists, and what the artwork means.
Wynwood Walls and the Museum of Graffiti come up as you ride—your guide points them out and explains what they are. The Wynwood Walls is a curated collection of murals in former warehouse courtyards; as of January it charges entry if you want to go inside after the tour. The Museum of Graffiti has an indoor exhibition space, eleven exterior murals, a fine art gallery, and a gift shop. The cart also passes the Convention Center, home to murals including Saturno's baroque reptile and Thomas Dambol's larger-than-life troll across the street, and Casa La Rubia, a local microbrewery with a spacious tap room.
The tour runs about an hour. Small groups stay under 7 guests per cart. If you use a wheelchair, the operator can pick you up from your own car—call ahead to arrange it. All children need a car seat or booster, or be tall enough to strap in without one. Two seats on each cart face backward. From early November through late February, the 5:15 pm tour runs partly after sunset, so the guide tailors the route to well-lit murals and streets.
