West Maui Mountain Activities runs this ride as a single 3-hour loop: you start by climbing into the West Maui Mountains on horseback, ascending to overlook the island and look down into the valley where seasonal waterfalls appear. The guides will photograph you at viewpoints along the way. From the top, you ride back down the mountain to the coastline, where the trail runs alongside the Pacific Ocean where the land and water meet—not a white sand beach, but the raw edge of the island. If weather permits and you want to, there is a stretch where you can trot or canter your horse instead of walk.

Before or after the mountain and ocean ride (the order depends on the day's conditions), you move through the property's petting zoo. This is not a separate attraction but part of the guided experience, and you'll encounter mini horses, geese, rabbits, guinea pigs, pigs and sheep up close. Soft drinks—soda, juice and water—are complimentary throughout the tour. Helmets and saddle bags are provided, and your guide stays with the group the entire time.

The ride suits families with children from age 7 onward, though riders must weigh no more than 215 pounds; the operator enforces this strictly and will ask for your accurate body weight when you book.
