The experience
Disembarking at Long Beach or San Pedro cruise terminal, you board an air-conditioned van with your guide and head straight into Los Angeles. The route threads through downtown first (a 15-minute stop at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum and the Frank Gehry-designed Walt Disney Concert Hall) before climbing to Griffith Observatory for views of the Hollywood Sign. The guide shares the story behind each landmark rather than just pointing them out.
Hollywood itself gets real time. You spend a full hour around the TCL Chinese Theatre and Dolby Theatre on Hollywood Boulevard, free to walk the Walk of Fame at your own pace, photograph the stars embedded in the pavement, and browse the shops without the guide herding you along. The Sunset Strip comes next, where you can grab lunch at Mel's Drive-In (a decades-old icon that inspired American Graffiti) or eat elsewhere. Lunch is your choice and expense. Then the van glides through Beverly Hills along Rodeo Drive so you see the designer boutiques and the famous sign from the comfort of your seat.
The coast rounds out the day. You stop for 45 minutes at Venice Beach to walk the boardwalk, check out Muscle Beach and the street art, then pass through Santa Monica on the way back. At the end, you choose your drop-off: LAX Airport at 4:30 p.m., any hotel near LAX, or back to your cruise ship at 5:30 p.m.
