Ride past murals, galleries and film studios that walking tours skip

This 2.5-hour bike tour of Los Angeles's Arts District uses electric bikes to reach the neighborhood's galleries, street art, historic architecture and restaurants in a single loop. Starting from Grand Central Market, you'll ride through Little Tokyo, stop at Hauser & Wirth Gallery and Art Share LA, cross the Sixth Street Bridge, and pass production studios and chef-driven restaurants. All guided by someone who knows the district's industrial roots and ongoing transformation. The tour covers ground a bus or walking group cannot access, moving deeper into the off-the-beaten-path side of downtown that most visitors never see.

The experience

The Arts District sits just past Little Tokyo, and most of it stays invisible to the typical LA tour loop. Handlebar's route uses electric bikes to go where buses and walking groups can't: down streets lined with murals, past lowriders and pop-ups, through the gritty industrial blocks that have appeared in productions like Grease and Bosch. You'll stop at Hauser & Wirth Gallery and Art Share LA to explore on your own, ride the Sixth Street Bridge, pass Warner Music and production studios where filming happens regularly, and break at a unique coffee house inside a converted warehouse. The guide fills in the neighborhood's history: the produce-shipping hub it was in the 1800s, the cold storage warehouses artists converted into lofts in the 1980s, and the street artists still shaping its walls today.

The bikes are Class 2 electric, which means you pedal but the motor assists on hills and flat stretches: no fitness barrier, and the pace stays easy enough to take in the surroundings. You get a helmet and a live guide with amplified sound so you hear them over traffic. The tour is round-trip from Grand Central Market, a 100-year-old food hall with over 45 vendors, so you can grab something before or after. You'll need to know how to ride a bike on city streets and be at least 16. The operator notes it's not suitable for travelers with poor cardiovascular health, though it's designed for all fitness levels otherwise.
